Week 6

  1. Use timer features to your advantage. Save more energy in the home by using delay timer features on your washing machine and dishwasher to make them run at off-peak hours.
  2. New dual ovens and self-clean technolgy with steam save a considerable amount of energy vs. a traditional single cavity high heat self clean cycle version. When considering purchasing a new oven, The Whirlpool® Resource Saver double oven combines a Schott Ceran® cooktop, SteamClean option and Energy Save mode, making it the most energy-efficient freestanding range.*
  3. Do your research when buying new appliances. The Government of Canada offers a free energy cost calculator to give you an idea of the bottom-line cost of operating will be. You can find the calculator at: http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/residential/personal/appliances/energy-cost-calculator.cfm

*Among leading brands, based on energy savings available with use of Energy Save mode and SteamClean cycle in both ovens.

Week 5

  1. Get rid of an old dishwasher. Not only do new dishwashers have energy-efficient features, they are also about 66 percent more energy efficient than they were in the 1990s.* The new Whirlpool® Resource Efficient Dishwashers are the most energy-efficient in the industry**.
  2. Insulate your water pipes. Get hot water to the tap faster, which cuts down wasting water running the tap waiting for hot water to come out.
  3. Throw your second load of washed laundry into the dryer as soon as the first is finished. With the dryer still warm from the previous load, it won’t take as long to heat up and will save energy.

Week 4

  1. Keep thermostats at reasonable heating and cooling temperatures. Use of fan mode on central air systems can improve circulation and save money during peak operation times. Installing a programmable thermostat also helps in managing heating and cooling costs.
  2. Purchase appliances with energy-saving features. Whirlpool® Home Appliances’ new French Door Bottom Mount Refrigerator is our most efficient french door refrigerator. The Accu-Chill™ temperature management system enabled by 6th Sense® technology returns food to the desired temperature in half the time.*
  3. Fill the sink basin with water to wash fruits and vegetables. Continuously running the faucet over fruits and vegetables to clean them wastes water. Conserve water by filling the basin to wash all fresh produce instead.

*As compared to Whirlpool® models without 6th Sense® technology.

Week 3

  1. Load up your dishwasher before turning it on. Save water and energy by making sure you run your dishwasher with a full load of dirty dishes inside.
  2. Get rid of old appliances the right way. Appliance-recycling programs are available across Canada. Call your municipality to find out what programs exist in your area.
  3. Unplug your cell phone charger. When your cell phone is finished charging, don’t forget to unplug the cord when you grab your phone. Only plug it in again when your phone’s battery life is depleted.

Week 2

  1. Check the dryer vent on the outside of your home. If the outside vent is obstructed by lint or other materials or blocked by outdoor elements, energy is being wasted, so check the outside vent regularly.
  2. Look for the ENERGY STAR® symbol. Appliances that have the ENERGY STAR® symbol have been tested according to prescribed procedures and have been found to meet or exceed higher energy efficiency levels without compromising performance.* In 2011, Whirlpool Canada was named ENERGY STAR® Manufacturer of the Year for the 8th time.
  3. Properly insulate your home. Simply sealing window frames and exterior cracks with caulking can significantly reduce wasting heat in the home.

Week 1

  1. Do a full load of laundry. By running a full load of laundry, you eliminate the need to do several smaller washes. However, don’t overfill the dryer because too much clothing will lengthen the drying time, using more energy. To prevent over drying, the Whirlpool® Cabrio® Platinum High Efficiency dryer features the Advanced Moisture Sensing system which uses built-in sensors to read temperature and moisture levels, so the drying cycle can end when everything is perfectly dry.
  2. Sign up for paperless billing.  Many banks and home services now offer an option to receive your bills electronically instead of wasting paper receiving bills and statements in the mail.
  3. Put your computer in sleep mode.  Screensaver options don’t save energy, so if your computer is inactive, set it to sleep. Or even better, turn it off, including the power bar, for longer periods of inactivity.

Whirlpool Simply Efficient Tips

  1. Look for the ENERGY STAR® symbol on your home appliances. Don’t see one? Think about replacing them with new, energy efficient appliances – helping you save on your energy bills, and the environment will thank you.
  2. Unplug electronics when they’re not in use. This will help decrease energy used on a daily basis. This small change can make a big difference on your hydro bill.
  3. Look for appliances that are made to use only the smallest amount of energy, like the Whirlpool Gold® Double Oven Freestanding Electric Range features TimeSavor™ Plus True Convection Cooking System to distribute heated air more efficiently to seal in flavour and juices.
  4. Recycle. Garbage collection systems across the country are becoming more and more advanced. Take advantage and do your part by separating recyclables, compostables and trash.
